Access to the Channel Islands: What you need to know in 2026

The Channel Islands are accessible from Granville, Carteret, Diélette and Saint-Malo. Since April 1, 2026, new access conditions have come into force.
To remember:
- For French nationals, day trips to Jersey and Guernsey are still possible with a simple identity card (5-year extension not accepted), until September 30, 2026.
- Presenting a passport now implies obtaining an ETA (electronic travel authorization).
- These documents are mandatory for all overnight stays and inter-island trips.
Here’s a summary of the documents you’ll need, depending on your destination and port of departure.
